This is a southern ocean and antarctic aquarium in Central Melbourne, Australia, located on the banks of Yarra River besides the Flinders Street Viaduct and the King Street Bridge. The Melbourne Aquarium has a very brief past spanning up to early 1998, the year when the construction was commenced and now it has developed into a fully equipped underwater escapade which is the home to nearly 550 species of aqua animals.

The Melbourne Aquarium offers a one way self guided tour which spreads over the four levels of the aquarium. Level one is full of rock pools and the special creepy cave including the giant Murray Cod; the giant Australian predatory fish. The upper deck café is also an important part of the level one which is always crowded with hungry visitors. The ground floor comprises of Coral atolls, another creepy cave with Japanese spider crabs, moorings café and aquarium shop. Octopus display area and kiddies play area are situated at the level B1 and in level B2, visitors can get a glimpse of the fantastic ocean world through Ocean Theater and Oceanarium.

The Melbourne Aquarium is also involved with educating the public about these marvelous sea creatures, threats to their lives and importance of conservation. Programs like BHP Billiton Shark Conservation Project and Animal Nursery are great places to get some knowledge about this unknown world. Now the diving facility along with the ferocious but less discovered sharks is also available to the public to explore. This can be done while being accompanied by experienced instructors and it’ll surely be a spine- tingling adventure.

The location of the Melbourne Aquarium is an easily reachable one from all four corners of Melbourne. The special facilities for differently abled people are also available and every Tuesday is named as the Senior Tuesday where seniors can get a 10% discount on entrance fee.
